 Effects on Nature

I walked alone beside a frozen pond

and searched to relish the first signs

of melt. But found an increase of

stubborn icicles; like glistening teeth,

their ragged smile.

With the magnet of my mind reckless

and pointed in a down position,

the air became amused at my quest.

A heckle of winds circled through

taunting trees in sudden laughter.

“Human-longing” has elongated

the winter cold…again.

How I wished to trade away

the chill for hot coffee, a strong

hand to hold, and the ghost of spring

with its colorful buds and sneaky thorns.

Women's History Month: Beverly M. Collins "Kiln"

My love for you is all-about-me.

It is an unraveling. A percolation

From the well of my own heart

and a pocket of giving,

that swells there. A release offered,

a surrender at rest on a jeweled

pillow in a ceremony of my creation.

The stars in my eyes that I

shine at you, were not your request…

Love is a warmth within me

that I need to cup-and-throw.

A rich wine from my ditches of

mystery glow.

Love that detected a path into the world.

Like a green vine that reached into the dem

depts of an unknown forest, armed with blind

trust, that took hold.

Bio: Beverly M. Collins is the Author of the books, Quiet Observations: Diary thought, Whimsy and Rhyme and Mud in Magic. Her poems have also appeared in California Quarterly, Poetry Speaks! National Women's Month: Beverly M. Collin's poem "Tapestry"

Sparkle in eyes; flowers tight in his hand

He risked it all to display deep feelings.

Life is tapestry of up and down plans.

Desires are rockets that break ceilings.

Notes hover piano; music unborn.

Stutter on paper excitement shrinking.

Coast like anger on a bus that is scorn.

Found a ditch in the center of thinking.

She asked, which came first grape or vine?

Can armed questions over take mystery?

Hidden ignorance breed the stinging-unkind.

Planted the riddle sprung from history.

Never risk what you're unwilling to lose.

A hole-in-the-heart is a space some choose.
